Lesotho's Climate Action
Climate Finance
Climate finance refers to financing channelled through national, regional and international entities for climate change adaptation and mitigation projects and programmes.
In Lesotho, most of the interventions on climate change are implemented through multilateral funds (Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF), Adaptation Fund (AF), Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF), Green Climate Fund (GCF) and bilateral funds including European Union, the Government of Japan etc. However, the opportunities offered by these financing windows have not been fully utilized. This could be attributed to lack of necessary mechanisms to directly access such funds.
UN agencies such as United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and other donor agencies have partnered with the government to facilitate financing of climate related projects. Include GEF, GCF and AF local structures to access funding.
